Tabletop Wargaming in Tameside

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to command a tank or infantry company in battle, to ride with the cavalry against the Emporer Napoleon’s “Grand Armee”, to fly a WW1 Biplane, a WW2 Spitfire or a spacecraft in outer space or find out why the English & American Civil Wars weren’t very civil, why not pop along and join us for the day?

Tabletop Miniature Wargaming: Mailed Fist Wargames GroupWe are a long established wargames club who meet on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of every month from 11am – 5pm. We use a wide range of miniature wargames rules including Flames of War, Bolt Action, Blitzkreig Commander, Cold War Commander, DBA, WAB, 40K, Warhammer, Field of Glory and many more including some developed “in house”

We are always open to new members and we are sure you will find a game to join in or there will be someone playing your type of game.

Whilst many of our members have extensive miniature armies, owning your own figures is not necessary to join in with one of our games; you don’t even need to have played before, we’ll help you with the rules and explanations of what is going on.

Car Parking

Car parking spaces are limited; parked reasonably carefully, it is possible to fit 7 cars onto the driveway in front of the building. Further parking is available on

  • High Street (before the corner shop),
  • Sheffield Road (turn left past the church)
  • On Highbank Works (on Halton Street opposite the end of High Street – evening & weekends only)

Please DO NOT park on Knivton Street, itself

Food and drink locally available

Tea & Coffee is generally available within the building!

Snacks ranging from chocolate to hot bacon muffins are available from our favourite corner shop – Ashbank Stores – open most days from 10am (or earlier!) till late. Gaynor & William also sell milk & other drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) including tea & coffee if you can’t be bothered to brew your own!

Alternatively, you can walk further afield to Morrisons in Hyde.

There are also a number of local Chinese Chippys (Au Yeung on Mottram Road is pretty good).

Finally, between Au Yeung and Morrisons, you’ll find the Sportsman Pub which is CAMRA listed serving beers from the Rossendale Brewery as well as others. In addition, they do a cracking Pizza and have a Cuban Restaurant upstairs
